How to turn blond hair brown?

I want to dye my hair brown. I tried going gradually, but the brown faded out really fast. That was $70 down the drain. Should I just buy a $10 box of hair dye and do it myself? I dye my own hair a lot, but I'm iffy about going darker myself.

Try just a couple of shades deeper than your natural hair color. Don't want to put people into shock. :-D

Besides, with just a few tones darker you won't have to futz with the roots as soon. If your blond is luminous, don't use ash colors and try to choose a color that is not "brassy" ie. orange.

If it's been chemically lgihtened and you go a lot darker, when the colour fades, it can start to look a green colour! And browns can look very flat when dyed onto lighter hair, try to do something with tones in it to reflect colour and make your hair look shinier and less "flat"
