How is that Ashkenazi Jews can have blond hair?

Ashkenazi jews trace their lineage to the middle east and a semitic, afro-asiatic heritage. Ethnically these groups have black or very dark brown hair. Knowing that Ashkenazi jews did not normally marry out of faith, and that blond hair is a recessive very indo-european trait; how can Ashkenazi jews have blonde hair? Was their ethnic mixing, mutations in genes or what?

why does it matter? Is there a book somewhere that says Ashkenazi Jews MUST have black or dark brown hair, or they are not really Jews?
