it depends on your skin color my skin is really white i have no tan whatsoever i have dark brown hair and i usually dye it a reddish color like a copper color or auburn....

Please listen before you do anything......... Once you color your hair brown you won't be able to color it back to blonde if you don't like it, so make sure that's what you want to do. Second, you should really seek professional help because if your hair is porous the ends of your hair might come out muddy or ashey. be careful choosing something over the counter, you might not get the results you want. Try professional hair color from sally beauty supply (it's about the only place you can get professional quality haircolor), ill tell you what you need ahead of time:

If you are looking for permanent haircolor, chose a color that you like, if your hair is long you will need to buy 2 bottles of the color (which are usually about 2oz. ea.)

For a pre-treatment you might want to get a small bottle of a neutral protein filler. wet your hair and leave it on for about 20min. After 20min. use a towel to dab off any extra filler that your hair has not absorbed. (don't rinse the filler out, you will leave it in with the haircolor) Then just make sure your hair is dry before you dye your hair. (you can use your dryer to speed up the process!) This will even out the texture of your hair so the color will be absorbed evenly into the hair, and it will help avoid light or dark spots and muddy ends.

After you have those you will also need a bottle of developer (aka peroxide, oxidant), you will need to between 2 to 8 oz of developer depending on how many bottles of haircolor you are going to use.

The developer comes in different peroxide volumes (10, 20, 30, 40 or 50 volume). basically, the lighter the color you are dying your hair, the higher number you are going to chose.

Since your hair is currently blond, if you are going a light to medium shade of brown you will use 20vol. developer, and if you are going a dark medium to dark shade of brown you will use 10vol. developer. I recommend getting at least an 8oz. bottle.

Then you will need either a mixing bowl and a tint brush, or, an applicator bottle. And don't forget gloves! lol
