Because my dad used to have blond hair in the dominican republic. He was born with black hair but since he used to be a baseball player he would play outside alot in the hot sun of DR. Its always hot. But then he went to america and his hair turned black.

I heard that if you be in the sun alot your hair turns lighter. Could this be why my dad used to be blond? or was it simply genetic? both maybe? is this true you can do this? Does this work with red hair too because my grandma from my mothers side was a red hed also. Im curious about this.

well it's probably from the sun cause if you go in the sun a lot you're hair turns blonde also when people have blonde hair when they get older it gets darker but usually not totally black usually just brown.

It actually can be both. Your hair def does turn in the sun. I know, my hair is always lighter in the summer because I'm outside more. When I was even younger it would be almost blonde. When your Dad came to America, he might now have been outside as much so his hair turned to his natural color. It happens all the time.

Also, peoples hair can change randomly. I know it's weird but it especially happens when you're younger to older, or when you older and you're getting older. I have two friends who had black hair when they were born but now are totally blonde. Like blonde blonde! And I have a friend who is from Panama and when she was born to a todler she had blonde, then when she got older it turned red, then when she was like 10 it's dark brown. It's so weird, but it's just genetics. It could be the parents genes mixing together.

So if his family has a history of there hair turning blond then odds are yours will too. Plus being out in the sun allot can add to that as well. So i guess its just the combination of both!
