Both for ones self, and on a mate? It's just hair! All natural blondes aren't vacuous sexpots, and not all guys gravitate toward blond hair on a woman! I know some people just don't like their hair color, or they want to be adventurous, or whatever, but why blonde?

I dyed my hair when I was a teen because people called me a 'dirty-blonde' or 'mousy-blonde,' and I just thought that sounded so very gross. So I went to light blonde. One time I did my hair black--I looked like a witch--my skin and eyes are just too light for that drastic a dark shade.

It probably has something to do with the iconic blondes in Hollywood during the 50's - Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield etc. If you think back, prior to that era, who were the famous blondes? Marilyn wasn't natural and neither was Jayne Mansfield from memory. This also helps answer your question as to why blondes are depicted as vapid, dizzy women.

Blond hair is a more rare hair color naturally in most places in the world (dark hair being far more common). Rare things are sought after, and then we see images of the most "beautiful" women in the media being blondes. It's a cultural thing. I prefer black hair, myself.
