Take him to a wig shop. They have very nice wigs in every cut imaginable. Try a few on, take photos, and then let him look at what he'd look like. You do not want to go the hair color route if he's gonna hate it. Been there, done that and it's not like they just remove the black. They have to bleach it to get the black out then color it to a shade close to his natural color. I'd look at wigs first.
